At the awards ceremony, California Preservation Foundation (CPF), 26 September 2014, held at The Oviatt, Los Angeles.  The Arboretum, formerly the Garden Grove Community Church, Richard Neutra, 1962, won the Preservation Design Award in the Rehabilitation Category. It is one of three awards the Arboretum received, including a national, the Design Citation of Merit, from docomomo-us, judged by the renowned architect James Polshek FAIA and distinguished architectural historian Alice Friedman, among others; and AIA Orange County, the top Honor Award, led by Michael Folonis FAIA for “the skillful restoration of an architectural icon.”

From left: Rob Sawyer, LandConcern, principal; Philip Stevens, LandConcern, project manager (landscape architecture); Rob Neal, project head, Christ Catholic Cathedral Corporation and principal, Hager Pacific Properties; Tracy Bejotte, senior vice president, Davis Partners; architectural historian and Neutra scholar Barbara Lamprecht; and Jim Wirick, principal, LPA Inc., (architecture.)

I was privileged to act as historical and preservation consultant on this intensely collaborative effort, and wrote/coordinated the  submissions to both docomomo-us and to CPF.
